Farewell Circular/Com.N.Alagappan

31ST October, 2008
Com.N.Alagappan Retires from the Bank’s services:
Dear Comrades,
Com.N.Alagappan, one of the pillars of our union is retiring from the Bank’s services today.
Com.Alagappan joined the Bank in August 1973. Though qualified to be an Engineer, he had chosen to join the Bank in view of his special interest in service sector. Immediately after joining at our Karaikudi branch, he started evincing keen interest in the activities of our union. Upon his transfer to Chennai in 1977, he started actively associating himself with the union activities. He first took the responsibility of organizing the then Regional office unit when many people were hesitant to do so fearing the management’s wrath. From then there was no looking back. He served the union in several capacities in the last THREE DECADES. He was one of those who courageously participated in a 9 continuous days sit-in dharna before the Regional Manager in 1985 when the management was rigid in settling many of our long pending issues. That was the time when management threatened to suspend and dismiss all the six participants in that Dharna. Mindless of the threat all the six comrades –leading functionaries – continued the dharna and ultimately the management was left with no option except to settle and implement all the issues. Com.Alagappan was one of the SIX in that battle. His contributions to the union, All India Federation and State Federation are countless. He is known for his forthrightness when it comes to a question of debate in any forum in the union. He is known for his innovative ideas when it comes to a question of organizing meetings, functions and conferences. He is known for his patience and perseverance. If the Union is able to bring out lot of welfare measures like Benevolent Fund, medical, educational assistance under Lakshmanan Memorial Foundation, it is Com.Alagappan who is largely responsible for it. Likewise several publications from the union are also due to is his contribution. A quiet and unassuming personality in him made him popular among all the employees and officers. He is a well recognized leader both in our All India and State Federation. Similar is the importance he gained from the management. His dedication towards Bank’s work is such, in the last two years he has been assigned all the tough tasks like balancing of various heads in Chennai Main. He did not mind to work for hours staying overnight on number of occasions to complete the job. Thus the management considers him as an employee with out parallel. He has been heading the Lakshmanan Memorial Foundation since its inception and we look forward to his continued role and contributions to our movement in the years to come.
Union wishes Com.Alagappan a happy, healthy, peaceful and active
retired life.
